Other then you, or a person you know being in the air force, can you provide a valid point as to why the Army, Navy and Marines couldn't main their own air power? which they already do.

Hell who needs separate branches anymore? It just creates turf wars. Let's follow Canada's lead and have the American Forces.

My point exactly, wonder what exactly happened to David to have such an axe to grind with the USAF (pun intended).

ehhh try again. The main and primary function of the Navy was established by good 'ol Teddy Roosevelt ever heard of the term of gunboat diplomacy? The Navy has, still and will always be America's means to flex it's muscle. It is there to protect American assets, project American power, and persuade American influences. Naval air wings are a force multiplier and have become the flagships that the destroyers were prior to and up to WWII. They're not there to provide to protection to the fleet They ARE the fleet. The rest of the fleet is there to protect them and our state of the art carriers. Marine air wings primary function is CAS for Marines and has been doing that since WWII.

ok the projection of airpower brakes into 6 distinctive capabilities 1 precision engagement 2 rapid global mobility 3 information superiority 4 global attack 5 agile combat support 6 air and space superiority. when a crisis requires a military response the regional combatant commanders will for a joint task force for all of the branches. each branch will use there distinctive capabilities on the battle field make them all necessary.

It's not about air superiority it's about how many McDonald's, Walmarts, and Starbuck's we can place globally.

I will fall short of saying that air power can win a war singlehandedly. To think so, is lunacy. However, I will say that our air power in the form of the AF has been a huge boon to the US military. Can anyone remember when the last time there was a death on the ground due to an enemy aircraft borne attack?
Oct 26, 2007 4:39am
Yes, I can. 9/11. As soon as the terrorist took control of the airplane it became an enemy aircraft.

Oh lets not open that box. There were failures on every government level not just the AF. But again, I say we avoid that topic lest we start a flame war to end all flame wars.
Oct 26, 2007 4:52am
Who said anything about government failures? I was simply answering your question about deaths due to an enemy aircraft borne attack.

No the threat of mutual assured destruction only prevented the US and USSR from direct military conflict. It however, increased the use of 3rd world nations as pawns to gain a so called "sphere of influence". Which is why we have the problems we have today.
