Deans plugs?

quick question...

just a different kind of connector. Their contacts are essentially just larger slabs of metal, which you solder the wires to. This provides for a better electrical connection than mini-tamiya connectors, which can sometimes become choke-points for electrical current and waste energy. Worst case scenario, the mini-tamiya plugs could get really hot if you have a large enough load and are pumping too many amps through them. But it's more likely that you would just lose a little energy efficiency. Also deans plugs are less annoying to connect & unplug. They fit tight, but they push right in, where tamiya plugs you sometimes have to mess with the wires to get the pins to line up right, and then you have the clip/lever to push in order to pull em appart. Deans are easier for Do-It-Yourself jobs, because it does not require a crimping tool, only solder + soldering iron.

Deans connectors are just higher quality. They make much better mechanical contact, therefore resulting in better electrical contact. The charger doesn't need to be special, but common sense tells you that the plug on the battery needs to match the plug on the charger. Keeping in mind gender... you know male/female. So bottom line, if your charger has the typical tamiya type connectors, you would need to wire an adapter or change the connector type directly on the charger. In either case, soldering would be required.

hmmm. ok.

Yeah one of my buddys that runs Lipo has deans because of the better contact and electrical flow that you get with them.

I build combat robot's and I used to race electric radio controlled cars (1/10th scale road course "pan cars"). I have to say I really like deans plug's they cause less resistance than the equivalent 12 gauge wire they replace and most AEGs use 14 gauge or less wire. They are little on the pricey side (for connectors) but are defiantly worth it.

I say do it the other way around. Wire your charger with deans and build an adapter for the charger. Why do it the other way around? Because you can build additional adapters from a 4-pack female deans alot easier than trying to do so from a set of Tamiya adapters. Using deans from the charger end will also mean that charging will be faster because there's less resistance.

personally, i use deans for the logistical standpoint. i have now just standardized all of my batteries. they can (in theory) be used for any gun and can be charged by any charger.

Fast Track hobbies is even closer if you are anywhere right around sac AEX. It is over off of Auburn blvd and Antelope. If you turn south onto auburn from antelope road, then it's in the first big parking lot on the right. It's about halfway between the arco gas station and antelope road. They have deans connectors for about the same price as hobbytownUSA, as well as wire, and various adapters.
