SICKO
My thoughts on the matter: The problem with the U.S. healthcare system is not the care itself, but the managers of the care (that is, health insurers). As has been said here already, the HMO's goal is to be profitable. The way they are achieving that presently is to limit the care by making hoops to jump through. But if they had no limits, people would be coming in weekly for MRI's after their bowling tournaments "just to make sure".

Marines die, that's what we're here for. But the Marine Corps lives forever. And that means YOU live forever.

It's a stereotype huh? Tell you what. Why don't you drive around here in the peninsula through some of the "worst" neighborhoods and tell me if I'm being stereotypical.

health insurances has come down alot, hell even Kaiser starts at $190 for a $50 copay plan, My bro working full time with 350 car paymnet 150 car insurance, plus rent utlites and other bills can pay his 250 a month self insurance bill. And he only makes $9 an hour. 10 years ago it wasnt possible to get decent insurance at good pricing now its alot easier.

East Palo Alto, Barrio's of Redwood City, South City and Daly City. I've witnessed first hand a woman get out of a brand new H2 hummer go into grocery store and purchase food with food stamps. People with the worst conditioned houses with multiple vehicles, nice stereo and television sets. Not everyone is like that.

The only solution to our health care issue is 2 fold. Government program that should become a supplemental or at least the very minimum. 1 annual checkup, vaccinations and screening per adult. Double that for infants and toddlers. Privatize the healthcare system and increase competition. Increased competition will force HMO's to be more service, quality and price friendly. Without it HMO's can do what ever they want while our government has their thumb up their asses.

It isn't privatized if it's heavily regulated. Sometimes less is more. We will never know unless we try. You forget to add in the Union's involvement in this mess too. Building anything these days that require massive amount of land is always and has always been a huge pain in the arse. Look at the 49'ers they want a new stadium. Yet it looks like they won't get one anywhere and they're not even trying to build a hospital.

I think our definitions of privatized are vastly different. When I say privatized I mean private companies subject to laws and regulations set by government agencies. I think when you say it, you mean a system completely self regulated and run.
More or less but there still needs to be some oversight. I don't think there is one industry in this country that isn't regulated in one form or another except for MLB, NFL and NBA. However, none is regulated as heavily as it is with the health industry. If you look at all other industries. They began with zero regulations which grew overtime to correct or reign in issues that have arisen. The health industry was never private to begin with nor was it a true government agency of its own. It just sort of happened and without care or thought.

Sweet and wait 6 to 7 month to see a doctor. Funny thing how Canadians come to the US for health care.
Some super fun reading material:
A lot of things suck unless you're rich. Why should athletes, actors, entertainers and musicians have the highest income? While teachers, garbage men, firefighters and policeman are much lower. Yet the later group does more to improve and contribute to our society than the other?

Lol, firefighters in the City make 6 figures easy. Not to belittle them, they deserve that salary if not more.
and sports players make 7 figures....?
I got it just fine, just messing around :) I was amazed to find out some firefighters here made more than some hospital CEOs. (average hosptial administrator salary is $105k here in the Bay Area)
Zito making $10 Mill a year to work every 5 days for 6-7 months out of the year. That sucks.
