Sniper... Need advice

Nov 17, 2007 2:50am
Im new to airsodt and would like to know of people who have been snipers before. I was wondering if being a sniper actually is worthwhile in airsoft or if it just a waste. Also I currently have a cheap L96 spring but was thinking of going to a tanaka m40 instead. In experience what is a better sniper rifle spring or gas. Any hints and suggestions will be helpful

the role of sniper is very costly. having a rifle that will perform with that type of accuracy, range, and consistancy is very expensive. then comes into play having a ghillie suit. again, costly.

in general, spring rifles are more consistant, since it always flies forward at (about) the exact same speed, whereas gas rifles depend on the pressure of whatever gas you use, which chages drastically according to the weather. I did a lot of research and went out and bought a marui VSR-10, but after playing with it i realized sniping wasn't for me....i'm too impatient and i like running around :)

Haven't had the chance to be an airsoft sniper but have long experience as a paintball sniper, pretty much the same thing. Most of the time a designated team sniper is a boring role due to less playing. Like what azn1stknightsoul and cagedconner go with a spring rifle due to consistent due to simple chemistry and physics. Either be a designate team marksmen or run and gun, but that my opinion, either way I'm going to try it out later on.

Before i owned my M700 Tanaka... I had a M24... I mean I didn't get to snipe much due to the fact all the places I went were hella small...(HK)

From my own experience, as a sniper you need lots of fps, heavy weight bbs, definitely a tight bore barrel, and lots of patience. i have taken very few shots per game, unless it is really windy. Snipers are not very effective in the wind. airsoft wise.i believe it is worth while. Just my 2 cents.

I have a guillie suit and an APS-2 with a load of upgrades, many people see me at games and say "WTF... is that guy wearing a guillie suit?" but i cant say this enough !!!THEY WORK!!! i have gotten so close to people in a guillie suit at nam i can smell what kind of antipersprant they have on(and many times people dont have it on...) so in that case B.O... but anyway as a sniper you have to be very very very pacient... a guille suit is the loop-hole of waiting i get out in the middle of the field on my belly and get stuff done... but airsoft snipers have to be tweaked and upgraded alot to get accuracy and range on a non windy day i can hit someone from up to 100yrds, thats on a clam day, on a windy i could have better luck sneaking all the way up to them and throwing bb's with my bare hand, its rediculous to sniper on those kind of days and really makes you think "should i sell my sniper and get an AEG?" thats my 0.2 cents

Airsoft sniping is fun and gives a chance to mix your play style. If you are set on sniping you will need to be ready to buy just about avery upgrade part that is made for your gun to get it to shot the way you want. One thing i would say is to have a MP5, P90, M4 or just some other small AEG to use if some gets to close or if sniping is just not working for you that day.
I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.
