SOF Training
one of my staff sergeants and his unit responded to a helicopter crash in Iraq in just their boxers and sandals. held the crash site until support arrived.

going to start off with low crawls, BUD/S style at 0700. from there move into push ups, flutter kicks, hello dollys. move onto bear crawls. do a run. probably 3-4 miles. then finish up with a swim in the river.

I hope you rmember to bring enough stuff to combat hypothermia, and any other medical situation. Not trying to flame you or anything but the real indoct that the military does has enough equipment and personel to ensure the safety of those going through it. Be smart, not just all hooah hooah about it. Especially with swimming in a freaking river in the morning during winter rainstorms. Have you guys thought this all the way through?

Ackbar is correct. There is a very distinct physiological effect. But there are things you can do to mitigate the effect. You can flex all the muscles in your extremeties and your abs. This will force blood to your core, keep you a bit warmer for longer etc...
i dont mean that it doesnt affect your body...

headshot. i disagree. when you have to break ice in order to get into the water, it goes way beyond mental. one of our guys did get hypothermia. he was out for two weeks. the rest of us were done for the day. your body uses every last bit of energy to just stay warm. besides, cold showers aren't anything, thats what your supposed to take following your icy dip.

I have a bad feeling about this...the swimming in the river part is a bad idea, especially this time of year.

im not saying your body doesnt to anything about the cold.

Sully. I see where your coming from. I'm am going to have a written statement explaining things word for word of whats taking place. Also probably hold off on the river portion considering that I can always work people into that later on. i think everything else should be fine as long as we keep hydrated.

fair enough. i'd say if you talked to my group of guys though they'd tell you that the body does respond, just like your mind, to cold weather training. its a lot like bone hardening. almost the same thing.
