are the gear boxes in these weapons the same as the other rifles?

The laylax spring will put the MP7 to about 270 fps with toytec .20g BBs.

PDI spring will hit 290 with stock barrel. As previously stated, the gears and motor and pinion head aren't replaceable. My teammate's mp7 has run with the pdi spring has gone through over 10,000 rounds to date and still going strong. He has a combo of pdi/laylax parts and the prolight.
