As with any surgery their is a little bit of risk envolved. Your doctor, if he is a good one he should be looking out for your best interest, and telling you your options, and odds of the surgery being good. i have seen many kee surgery's go well, if you have to question your doctor's knolage try and get a second openion from another doctor, or a specialists.

I have had 3 knee surgeries in the past 5 years. I was hit by a car in High School skate boarding home from school. Tib/fib fracture and lost sensation in both my knees. I had a titanium rod and about 9 pins put in my leg. 2 years after my surgery my nerves never regained any sensation. It felt like they were asleep, constantly tingling and such. After going back to the hospital they realized they I had severed my ACL on both of my knees when the car hit me. I had minimal pain, but they discouraged surgery because of my age. I am 22 now and this was about 5 years ago. They said if the pain got worse with age to consider surgery. My knee's have stayed about the same, but some sensation has returned. I personally think Kaiser has their thumb up their asses when it comes to health care coverage. Yes, they are doctors, but there is a lot that people don't know about their coverage limitations. If I were you I would honestly see what your health coverage offers, and get a second opinion. I worked at UC Davis for a long time and we had tons of people come to us and ask for a second opinion, and half the time we proposed a less drastic procedure, with a better result. We used to joke all the time and say "Go to Kaiser loose a leg, come to Davis and loose a toe."

Id say get a new doctor. I went to my doctor with pain, he gave me MANY options not all surgery. However surgery to me seemed to be the best option. I said when could we do it he said in two days if we wanted, i opted for two weeks. I have had seveal minor knee surgerys and several other minors ones and NEVER once has a doc tried to get me NOT to have it done. I know for a fact he doesnt not make alot of money after a surgery and he is REALLY good. I hate kasier im on blue cross PPO so i can choose my doctor. I knwo your stuck with them. What exaclty is wrong with your knee? torn ligment? no cartalidge? just ot stable?

It's just informed consent. Don't think of it as him trying to scare you out of the surgery. He's bound by law to give you all the info, good and bad. No matter what though, get a second and third opinion before you have any surgery done.
