not a good poll. I can not choose any of the choices. Leave it to a panny waste to mess up a poll,
If you give to a charity please think of giving to one of these two charities. The Naval Special Warfare Foundation or Navy SEAL Warrior Fund.

LP's dont really make much. When I was an "LP Agent" I was making 14.50 an hour. I heard the LP's at the Macy's in down town SF make around 16-17 an hour.

After I signed in and went back a couple pages I was able to vote.

what?! we prosecute. QUite often. We also bill them quite heavily. 800$ for 80$ stolen.
Feb 4, 2008 2:31am
If your working for a small biz, OK. For corporations the bill just gives management an excuse to keep your position going, their losses are covered.
Feb 4, 2008 2:36am
true, the shop lifter restitution is quite minimal to what I get paid, but doing internal work, and working invetory shoratges and doing a shit load of other things makes my pay justified. I hate doing all that stuff but its what I got to do.
Feb 4, 2008 2:51am
Yes, we do what we gotta do.
Feb 4, 2008 3:34am
I work inventory... and realisticly, one LP isn't gonna do much in terms of preventing shop-lifting. And your always gonna have variances in stock that are either mis-rings, mis-counted, or just "Where the f|_|ck did this come from??!!" personaly Undercover LP works better than visable LP. Heck, Shop-lifters will nab something when a cop is in the store looking at something just to say he stole something when a cop was there.

well true once LP no longer exist in a store your knwn theft will sky rocket. Do i think we make a difference...in my bussines opionion yes, personall no.. but what else job besides being a cop do they let you go out and handcuff idiots. Not to many more out there. BTW josh, a shit load of stuff happen in inverory. In weekly event I will recover about 800-1000$.

my stores total shrink is 15,000aprox. We are the second or third lowet in the COMPANY. The lowest in our region which consist of 100 stores.
Feb 4, 2008 4:00am
The idea of wanton theif and rampage looters is ridiculous. There are MANY lagre and major retailers out there that have little to no LP. ANd 90% of retails do NOT prosecute. I have worked for several and have maintained less then a .05% shrink rate. 95% if not more of shrink loss is internal. Either from employee theift, to misrings, to loss shipments to whatever. Very little shrink comes from the outside world. And sadly LP is just as crooked as the people they are supposed to stop from stealing at lest 25% of the time. Most companies that have an LP dept pay thier starting lp agents min wage to $1 over, and lp mangers not much high. Most company Lp's have a LPDM who is in charge of any ware from 5 to 500 stores. Some of these DM's are allowed to have agents some are not. Then there are companies that hire internal agents such as Longs, Kmart Target, that have plainclothes lp agents, And finially we come to the big guys Bestbuy and others who have Lp right in your face with big yellow shirts. Lp at its BEST is a deterrent, for internal theift not much else sadly...

I understand how you could believe that thinking is idiotic. Although you are quite knowledgeable, the level of your knowledge is limited and so I don’t expect you to agree.

I did it for 2.5 years at the UC Davis bookstore. Best student job ever. We caught an average of 3 people per week when it wasn't rush (the first two weeks of every quarter where people get their text books). Most of the theft that occurred wasn't internal and since it was UC Davis, most of the students we caught were sent to student judicial affairs. We rarely notified the police unless they weren't students or if the theft was over a certain amount. We charged everyone we caught a $200 restitution fee no matter what he or she stole. For example, on several occasions students stole $0.10 test form, which ended up costing them $200.10, plus a meeting with SJA, and mark on their record. On most occasions they were rich kids thinking they could get away with it and when they got caught they'd call their parents and get them to complain. They never win because we have solid evidence on them.
