Silencers are golden

Feb 22, 2008 4:21am
So I skirmished on a friend's private field last Monday, and one of the guys there had an M16 with a looong silencer. It was very quiet. You had to be near it to hear the gearbox otherwise, nothing. If I were to get one for my CA AUG A1, other than the phantom front end, what will work and actually get rid of the pop?

you need to fill it with some kind of foam. just a silencer doesn't muffle anything. Foam or Fail

I just went to and arts and crafts store and bought those mini paint rollers, I think the cost for a pack of 2 was about 3.99. I took the foam off and slid it over the inner barrel of the silencer. Be sure to drill holes on the inner barrel man. WORKED GREAT!!!

i still dont understand how any form of silencer for an airsoft gun can silence it?

Some people have more sensitive ears than others. It's all pretty subjective I think. The sound coming from the muzzle is minimal when compared to the gearbox, obviously. Personally, I listen for the sound of the gearbox not the sound of the air escaping the end of the silencer.

Yeah thats true, you can still hear the gear box obviously, but it got rid of most of the popping sounds out the barrel. I was pretty excited when it worked, especially when I just got into this hobby recently

guns i that i have heard a noticeable difference in sound are. the Tm Mk23, when the silencer is on that you can barely hear anything, and stock sniper rifles with foamed silencers, such as the GSpec. There just isn't that big of a difference on AEG's

So basically guns with out gearboxes and motors

aug's have enough room to fit some dynamat insulation around the gearbox. this quiets the gun down quite a bit. i think p90s can also benefit from that mod. Just be careful not to let the dynamat make contact with the switch assembly or any other electrical components as you can fry your gun.
What's a signature?

So, are all the silencers available for AEG's just empty metal tubes? It seems I've seen some at AEX that already had foam inside, and no inner barrel. Just a stack of foam rings that formed a tunnel for the bb's flight path. The one I saw at my last game was long, and half of it slid over the gun's outer barrel. It drastically changed the appearance of the rifle. Something like that would suit my AUG very well. I'm looking into the sound-deadening mod for around the gearbox. I don't have young ears, but I'm telling you that it was difficult to locate the shooter of this gun by it's muffled sound. He did say his gb was precisely shimmed, etc. resulting in not much whine at all...

ive seen some people with tm 552s and put silencers and foam yes foam aroun the gear box not packaging foam but like temperpitic foam or cotton gause it muffled the gearbox havly and is an easy mod also he had a foam scilencer. thease people where in a clan and had all the same gun they where like wispers (this was in chicago)

I just got one a week ago. It is hollow but it fits flush with the sight. I am using it for a barrel extension. But great idea with the foam around the gear box. But is most of the sound from the piston reciprocating and if am right you cannot put stuff around that. Personally i like the reciprocating sound though it gives my M4 a Voice! :D

lol, if this m16 had a green stock and foregrip, then it was probly mine. the particluar suppressor I have on mine is 14mm- threaded, so you could put it on the aug it would just extend back to the fore grip.

I dont think personaly that an airsoft gun needs to be silenced unless you are a really intense sniper because you are usualy in close combat and not sneaking around at least thats how i play. D

Silencers are also illegal in the state of California, I think... [Oh, what a fantastic state we live in! ]

Stone, what would be the context or real-life situation of an illegal use of an airsoft replica with a silencer? I can understand the illegality of selling functioning silencers, but what's the reasoning behind a law against having one on an airsoft gun?

Sound suppressing of any projectiles is illegal if it reduces the the dB rating by 5-10 dB period. This is why a lot airsoft silencers are now coming out solid. Why take the chance of being hassled by the ATF?
