I'd say go army, the army can just do alot more than the marines since the marines don't have the logistical support like the army does. And looking at your login name... Delta is army, yes they do recruit from other branches (my friends husband was approached by them and hes a marine officer) but if you want any SOF go army as well.

first, be prepared to spend a total of 8 years in the military(4 years active, 4 years in-active) and the salary is about the same as the other branches starting out, and you get full health care and free college and all that but im sure you knew that, well uhh any other questions?

I know I wouldn't go in for that I want to go in to help people and it would be a good start to my life/career.I tried to talk to them but they don't really know alot about it.I am in the process of talking to a recruiter now.

The pay is the same in all the branches. The benifets are really nice to have. I like the way my life turned out after I joined the military. Some times sucked and sometimes were great. I dont regret anything. And you will meet friends that you will have all your life. I think its a good thing for you man. enjoy and get as much as you can out of it.

Personally I am not a fan of recruiters. It's not that they're not good guys (my best friend comes back to do it all the time), its just their job makes them do certain things. You should find someone who knows a lot, develop a plan for yourself and then approach a recruiter. That way you know exactly what you want to do and how to get there. I know with the Marine Corps you're put where you're needed, but for the most part you'll get your top choice (unless you want to be a pilot). Once you've got it all together, follow your plan. I'm heading back to Vermont next week. I got a buddy who is Force Recon there. If you want any questions I can probably get them answered for you. I also know a guy in Delta but I don't think he can answer much more than the basics for you. If you ever want to look into Navy SW, I have a lot more contacts. PM me.

try other things out first before you enlist. Go to college, and try ROTC. the first couple of years are commitment free.

i too am thinking of joining the Marine corps, but i took my time in making this decision, i went to college for 2 years, went Greek, and other life experiances at 18, 19, and 20. I have until the end of this semester to decide whether i want to join so consider this, you are 18 only onc ein your life, the Corps will be there forever.

and make sure your doing it for the right reasons and for your self not just cuz ur mom/dad/grandpa wants you too, it is a commitment and the lessons you learn will be with you forever. i have been to many recruiters of nearly all the branches but with the marines, yoiu can just feel a sense of brotherly love and commrodary.

The marines brotherhood thing seems more like a recruiting tactic(very effective at that) i say this becuase I too once believed in the infantry brotherhood(same type thing to draw you in), and although i do care about my infantry brothers, the more time i spend in the more i dont care what you are so much. Im over the big dick show, i know what i am capable of. Silent professional is a good saying.

+1 for tex. I love the Marine Corps. but you HAVE to join for the right reason, and know what job you want to do for 4 years actively...and inactive for 4. pay and benefits are all the same. i guess the question to ask is why do you want to joing the military, then ask what do you want to do, then decide which branch of service. as much as Marines (including myself) talk trush about the other service...bottomline is we all serve for the same purpose and moreso same reason.

The funny thing is, you won't be fighting Iraqis. Here's a riddle, how did the most deadly attack in Iraq not kill anyone directly??? Winner gets a popsicle from down in the cellar.

In December I went to talk to a Marine Recruiter. I thought I'd be able to finish school while a Marine, which I learned from some Officers who are Marines it isn't possible.
Mar 4, 2008 6:49am
I went to a military academy. Was going to be an officer. I'm happy I went the college route because I decided that an enlisted would be better for what I wanted to do. Definately take some time to get some schooling in, even if it is community college or a trade school.
