So any noob questions that I have will go here instead of flooding the board with thread after thread. Are masks with a wire mesh visor good and safe enough? I was at AEX, but totally forgot to buy one there because those would definitely fit safe standards, but I went to Sports Authority and saw some 20 dollar paintball masks with the hard clear plastic visor, and the wire mesh one. So which one should I go for? Wire mesh, or the paintball one?

Wire mesh won't fog but honestly, spend the money and buy a quality mask. 400 fps limits are easy enough a bb to shatter through the wire mask. Is your vision only valued at $20? Find one that fits the ANSI standard.

Buy a quality name you can trust. I've used JT for years and haven't had a problem. I bought a JT mask that retails for $60 online for $40 at Big 5.
