new to airsoft

So I have lately been getting really interested in the airsoft sport. Knowing that I need to buy a mask, an LBV, and some spare parts, I am limited on money for a gun. I have pmed one of the guys on the board about his M4 for sale and if its not sold I will be buying it hopefully, but if not I was wondering what are the basics I would need if I wanted to come out and hit the field with some of you guys. With many other hobbies I have had I usually buy the really good stuff and if I dont like the sport or its just not for me I end up selling everything for dirt cheap and loosing money. So to stop that from happening I was wondering if one of these guns would keep up with most of your standards or does every competeing gun need or should be a green gas gun? ( I know its not the best but would it work to get me started, and I really dont care for all the laser and light crap, I just want the M4) Thanks for any info/opinions.

so then were could I pick up a gun that is affordable ( with my self limiting budget) and would still be effective on the field?

I would say look into either the Classic Army Sportline Series (look on www.airsoftextreme.com), or you could try the Echo1/JG series of guns (look on www.airsoftgi.com). Both are semi-reliable starter guns, and will treat you will if you do the same to them. Most of those guns can be found for around $150, and they come with everything you need.

JC is the WELL R-7 a decent brand?
Mar 24, 2008 8:29am
No. Avoid them like the plague. Best bet for a clone gun is a Echo1 or a JG.

thanks, I will do that, I am looking at airsoftagi.com, airsoftextreme.com and airsplat.com right now looking for what Ican purchase that would fit my price range.

so today I thought I found a good deal and stupidly I jumped on it. I found a kid locally selling a Echo1 M4. He said that the only problem wrong is the battery is ying but can work for about 10 mins or so. I bought it for $75 pretty much knowing that I would have to buy a new battery, come to find that most local places dont have the battery in stock  I brought the gun home and while chargeing the battery I noticed that the selector switch works but is broken on the opposite side( at least it selects) the magazine is very loose, the buttstock is loose a shit, and now after charging the battery for about 6-7 hours it wont even work.

Where is your flashhider? Looks like your gun was abused cause my JG guns are all shooting great and doesn't have any of that problem.
Mar 25, 2008 9:54am
it came with this p.o.s that I took of right away

That's a silencer, you can probably paint it and it will look better.
Mar 25, 2008 10:33am
I know it was a silencer, but there was no need for it, plus it just plain looked stupid. I think I am just going to kick myself in the ass and cut my loss on the gun and just save up for a little more expensive/ better gun that I wont have to worry about

The selector isn't an ambi selector. I don't think it's supposed to move, just the left side of the gun.

Do you have any experience with AEGs? If so, I would say try taking out the motor and testing it outside of the gun. Then, if it works, put it back in and then try adjusting the motor height. It might help.

Rereading this thread, you bought a $75 gun. For the price you paid, just be happy it works. Maybe you should have saved up for a new JG or Sportline instead.
Mar 26, 2008 3:23am
I would actualy ask about getting my money back dude. you had 75, you were 50$ away from a sportline. If you can't get your money back, then see what you can have done to it to get it to work, all else fails, you have yourself some spare parts now...
Mar 26, 2008 3:45am
I was thinking about that but, since it was a craigslist buy and I met the guy at random location, I highl doubt the person will even email me back. As of right now I am talking to another board member about a CA M15a4 so hopefully that goes smoothly, I think I am going to give it to a buddy(he would be willing to put money into making it work) and then I would have someone to shoot

Why don't you just buy a brand new gun from aex so you can get the warranty? That way you dont have to deal with questionable parts.

If you spell Sater wrong on Google it doesn't say, "Did you mean Sater?" It simply replies, "Run while you still have the chance."

The only reason I havent bought a new gun is because a decent gun from a shop is about $300. I originally didnt have a big budget to start out with ( i was originally going to buy an ebay plastic gun  ) but thanks to everyone on here I have been given more info on a proper gun. I bought the echo1 because the price was right for my budget and it was one of the guns I was told could be a good starter gun ( just in case I didnt like the sport, so I wouldnt spend too much $) as for buying a gun from a shop, you are totally right it is the best way to go, I just have to save for one.
Mar 26, 2008 5:44am
I have been checking out the CA sportline, but from what i read most people say to stay with a metal gun and those are plastic. I am still learning more about them though, I am going to airsoft extreme up here in sac tommorow ( I am in sac till thurs afternoon) and see what if they could give me. The last time I called (the one in santa clara) they quoted me about $300 for a sportline (m4 style) with a battery and charger. And thats where I have been getting my base price from.

I just took another look and at AE I found this one, which I am guessing is the same one your talking about Orange, http://www.airsoftextreme.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=364_68_545&products_id=3516

Save your money for a CA, you can't go wrong
Mar 26, 2008 7:44am
well for the value package the only reason to buy it is because it has a battery and charger. From what I have read on the description the gun doesnt come with a batery and charger stock ( most of the guns on AE website didnt) I originally assumed it would come with atleast one battery and charger, but I have learned "assumtion is the mother of all F*ck ups" so I figure I have to spend the extra $30 for the battery, charger, and the extras which I really dont need ( sling, bbs, glasses)
Mar 26, 2008 11:40pm
So I ended up going to AE today and thanks to CC I was able go a little over the set budget for a starter gun and I bought a CA M15A1, also I was able to get the Echo1 fixed ( there was a bad connection in the battery wires) other then the battery is still a p.o.s. but they did a test fire and I belive it shot at about 380 ftps. So now that that gun works too, I am debating weather I am going to sale it or use it as a back up gun. Just a side note the guys at AE in Sac were really helpful and answered all 600 questions I asked. So hopefully I will be able to make it to the field in two monthes when I move to Sac from San Jose
