Mar 28, 2008 11:38am
Hey, stuck in Iraq and I've got one of the squad leaders in my PLT intrested in airsoft, I havent played much over the past .. year and a half. But I'm going to be getting out more after this deployment, Anyway He really wants a sniper rifle, I told him back when I played more spring snipers were more consistant. We could really use some advice on whats good whats new how much he can plan to spend on a good one, and please keep in mind we wont be back for a few months anyway so if your antisipating anything about to come out.

Well just for the realism id suggest he use an m24 or an m40 not only because i have an m24 but because it is currently being used in iraq and a lot of the other middle eastern countries.plus you can really have fun with the m24 because you can upgrade the *poop* out of it.Plus its real rugged and heavy.Well thats my suggestion. But that maruzen is also a good pick if your likes the thumbhole design.(the m24 is basically a more modern design of the m40, which was used in vietnam).

Well, whats your price range. If cheap go with the JG bar-10 and If he has the money JG Bar-10.

vsr-10 is in my opinion the best for airsoft skirmishes, although it may seem "toyish" due to the light weight, it's really nice to not have to lug around 20 pounds of gun. It also has full upgrade potential, anywhere from 450 fps all the way up to 700.

I swear by the VSR-10 Gspec. Really accurate and the look is great. My m14 can be my heavy gun. I like my sniper light enough to haul a$$ if I have to. Its really quiet too even without the silencer it comes with.

Gas sniper rifles are very consistent if you can manage to keep the rifle's magazine at a good key temperature. Summer coming up, it should be a problem. My M40A1 can go from 350 fps to 610 with a flick of a screw. Tanaka rifles with a best gun hopup kit are amazing. Throw on a DB 6.01 and you'd be set.

Gas sniper rifles are cool, but ive heard of them having problems.

I hate how people bash gas rifles. It's reputation as an incosistent rifle and nothin good can come of it is a horrible misaccusation. This is all first hand experience and I have been working on them for several years. I have owned spring and gas rifles, and honestly, I would choose my Tanaka over any other rifle. I have owned a CA M24 upgraded to about 500 fps and a TM GSPEC and I can still say I'd choose my Tanaka M40A1 over any other rifle.

I was looking at the M24s on the AEX site. What's the difference between the fluted barrel and the regular barrel? Cosmetic?

Get a VSR-10 and put some high quality upgrades in it. You won't be disapointed.

well to put my two cents i currently own a VSR G-Spec and to tell you i love this gun once you get all the up grades its a great gun i will give you a quick list of what i put in it and have it shooting at around 530-50 fps with you dont need more than that in airsoft skermishes. and its accurate. as for weight you can put a bypod on it and anything in the hollow stock to add weight if needed. hope this helps ;)
