glass is a biatch to drill. the heat and pressure cracks the glass so fast. I have yet to do it successfully. Good luck man.

Use a torch to cut a hole and a file to softly smooth it out.
In close range combat, an unsuspecting melon will get the back of its melon blown off.

If you use a tourch be careful and don't do it in a place with a tempure chang.I had 6 bottles crack on me before i realized that the wind was cracking them.
It doesnt need to be a "man's torch" like Map, Propane, or OxyAcetylene, one of those $5 butane lighter torches from a gas station should work as long as the glass isn't too thick. I can melt pennies with one I have. :)

the EASIEST and MOST EFFECTIVE way is to sand blast a hole in the bottle - mask off any areas NOT to be etched, including filling the inside with paper or some such, to prevent the sand from etchingthe inside when you cut through.
Seek the Narrow Gate, for the path is broad and the gate is wide that leads to destruction.
You could also get technical and use and a diamond abrasive hole saw... harder to find and way more expensive than the other options, but eh I know it works:
