I like the argument but consider this: If you own a handgun you could stow it in your backpack and bring it on campus. It would not be legal and you would get in a ton of trouble if you got caught or it accidentally fell out, but in the event of a shooter on campus you would be able to defend yourself and others. Not saying i advise this or advocate it but ... judged by 12 or carried by 6?
