Is crazy enough to strap Claymores on the side of a M113.

No, I know, I know. It's for riot control, but still, kinda got to wonder about the back kick from the C4 burning through the aluminum armor.

I'm pretty sure its for people rushing them when their vehicles been disabled.

Explosions don't 'burn' through armor.

Yes, Aluminum, the M113 has Aluminum armor. They chose it so it could be lightweight, and easier to get from place to place. And as for burning through the armor, maybe not the best way of putting it.
Jun 6, 2008 5:50am
they'll be wrapping it with aluminum foil next

airforce is not priority on ground units lol. I would imagine at most, those are security forces who do not leave the base too much?
Jun 6, 2008 5:56am
And remember, they designed this back in the '60s... So I don't think aluminum alloys where really developed at that point... that or they didn't want to>.> But yeah... aluminum 'cause it's light weight^^

sounds like somone needs to google "shape charge" and "claymore" for how they work, concussive back blast vs. foreblast, etc.
Jun 6, 2008 1:18pm
There's really not that much kick behind a claymore and certainly not enough to burn through the aluminum on the M113.
Jun 6, 2008 3:43pm
The Marines in VN complained that the M113's armor was just thick enough to slow a .50cal down, so it wouldn't exit the otherside and bounce around in the interior.
Seek the Narrow Gate, for the path is broad and the gate is wide that leads to destruction.
