Brass or Titanium Inner Barrel?

Dec 29, 2004 7:44pm
What's the difference between Brass and Titanium inner barrels? Does Titanium make for a more accurate barrel? Is it smoother? Basically, why should I pay almost double for a Titanium inner barrel?

dont cut it with a dremel, i would do a hacksaw with real fine teeth, and then file the end real smooth... dremel i can just imagine getting spinny on you and sputtering all over the barrel haha no good.

titianium will probably take ware(bbs flying thru it) better, but even if the brass doesnt quite as well, you can buy another and break even... id just go brass.

Makes no difference in terms of performance. I just use the Systema brass ones and they've worked well for me.

I don't cut inner barrels anymore, period. (Not my own anyways.) Hurts the accuracy. Just buy the length you need.

yea, i was half kidding about the dremel jumping around. If your careful it wont, but I would imagine a slightly sideways cut

Actually, even if you get a perfect cut, it'll still be off. It's all about the barrel crown.

So get a drill bit with a round stone on the end and cut your own crown. Or just use a drill bit and a drill press to get the angle right. It's not like your shooting at 500+ yards. It's airsoft. I don't care how accurate your AEG is if there's a 6mph crosswind your shot is going to be a bit off.

Just wanted to mention that the KM TN tightbore barrels are not actually titanium coated. They are teflon coated. Alot of peeps were thrown off by the "TN" thinking it meant titanium. And in regards to the crown on the tip of the barrel, KM & FF barrels have them while the Systema ones don't (at least not on the 4 that I have purchased). And I have not noticed a considerable difference in "game play" accuracy between them.

Systema barrels do have a crown. Look again. Even stock barrels have a crown. And no, you can't just take a grinding stone to it and try to get a perfect crown, not even on a drill press. Admittingly, you're not looking at making 500 yard shots, but a slight deviation at short range results in larger deviations at longer ranges. If it's pointless to have an even crown, then it's also pointless to have a gun shooting consistently at a given velocity, or to try to have a consistent point of impact. May as well just slap an AEG together, forget about tolerances and call it a day.

i cut mine down wiht a hack saw then used a drill press to crown it, shoots fine. i got pretty good range with it to even tho it was a 4 in barrel hahha

Made a difference in my guns. I use a tube cutter and get perfectly straight cuts too. Barrel crown makes a big difference, simply because an uneven crown will allow air to force by the bb on one side and cause it into an unstable spin. It can create the same effect as the hopup, except in a more haphazard manner. You said it yourself. It's a lightweight projectile, so slight deviances can throw it off. There's always going to be external conditions that affect the shot, but that doesn't mean that I want the bb to veer off course the minute it leaves the barrel. If I can make it as accurate as possible to begin with, I will. Besides, anyone who can shoot worth a crap knows that you wait for winds to die down before you take your shot. The little things make a big difference. When I had my P90 game gun, my stock 247mm barrel was actually more accurate than my 363mm Systema TB. Why? The front end was unsupported, and because of that, resonant vibrations from the piston slap alone could transfer to the bb and throw it off once it left the barrel. The fact that the rounds only weighed .20g and .25g only made matters worse.

I'm not. I've just decided to let people believe what they want to believe. In the end, it doesn't really affect me. It helps to state that clearly so they know that I'm not going to reply to their rebuttals. I often feel like people argue just for the sake of arguing. So I'm not going to participate in it anymore.

I've cut lotsa barrels and neo is right, a decent crowning job is the key. but it wont be as accurate as stock. but when your rolling with a 4" barrel accurracy isn't too much of a concern.
