confused nub questions-batterys and chargers

Dec 30, 2004 2:18am
well i pick up my first aeg the other day from aex, and i also got a 8.4v 1100 mah ak stick battery to go with it. well the guy at the shop said any r/c car charger should work with this battery with a miniplug adapter(wich i bought) but after lookin at my rc battery charger, its a 9.6v while my battery is 8.4v. According to my dad and just common sense, it seems that i wouldnt want to charge a 8.4v battery with a 9.6v charger, whilst the guy i talked to at aex sadi it should... any advice???

Dude its fine I have got all kinds of batterys and chargers and if its is just a charger that plugs into the wall and then the battery "not a speed charger" it's not gonna hurt it let it run for 4 - 6 hours or untill it starts to get hot

Until it gets hot is a bad way to charge batteries. Its just not healthy. Hot means its overcharged or the amperage is too high. I'm not saying your 9.6v charger wont work, it will. Your battery just wont last as long or perform as good. Go pick yourself up a battery charger meant for your battery. AEX will have one for probably not that much money. Or if you really want a good one, I reccomend the MRC Super Brain 959 charger. Its an adjustable peak charger. It will charger pretty much any battery you'll ever buy. They are around 50bucks but i think its worth it. Peace!

fark it, i've had a battery (crap battery) that i've had since my first aeg two years ago, I have a few others now, but this one I dont discharge, i run it till it's hot and it works great. I just kind of use this one as a lab rat, the others I discharge and charge them for an appropriate matter of hours. But my crap battery works great and holds a charge forever.

LOL, back when I had my SR-16 I would charge the 8.4v 1800mah niCad battery I got for it up till the little light blinked. Then I'd use it for a month and never discharge it. HEY, I didn't know any better.

I made the mistake of listening to my dad when I got my first AEG... He told me "15 minutes on the RC Car charger and you'll be ready to go" Yea... he set it up for me, and at cameron park the next day.. One battery melted on me, and the other went dead after 100shots...
